OSI PF Det. 1 Observes Fraud Awareness Week

Editor’s Note: The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Fraud Awareness Week enables OSI to bring awareness and education to its Procurement Fraud mission and how OSI’s PF professionals help protect the United States Air Force and United States Space Force.

Mission

OSI Office of Procurement Fraud (PF) Detachment (Det.) 1, located on Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif., is responsible for conducting investigations into allegations of significant procurement fraud involving Department of the Air Force personnel and assets.

Area of Responsibility

PF Det. 1’s AOR is the western U.S. which includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Hawaii. PF Det 1 oversees 3 other Operating Locations: Joint Base  Lewis-McChord, Wash. (OL-A), Travis AFB, Calif., (OL-B) and San Diego Naval Base, Calif., (OL-C).

PF Det 1 protects these major DAF programs: Missile Tracking, Launch Detection, Space Lift, Satellite and Range Operations, KC 46, MQ-9 Reaper, Global Hawk and F-117 engine sustainment. 

PF Det 1’s AOR has a $100B annual portfolio.

On The Case

In 2019, PF Det. 1 conducted an investigation into a contractor who provided nonconforming products and also submitted false certifications to the DAF. Due to overwhelming evidence, the contractor chose to pay an $11M settlement, and provide acceptable products.

Efforts/Analysis has shown a significant increase in the importation of foreign circuit boards into the DAF supply chain. PF Det. 1’s investigations have increased 19% over the past 5 years.
