"What we do in this command each and every day is critically important to the success of the United States Air Force," says AFMC commander, Gen Arnold W. Bunch, Jr. #TuesdayThoughts
The school year may just be starting, but it's never too early to think about next summer! United States Air Force internships come in a variety of forms, from the Premier College Internship Program, to Palace Acquire opportunities and more at locations across the force. Check out the experiences some of our interns at Arnold Engineering Development Complex this summer and start planning for your future! https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1938315/internships-offer-real-world-experience-at-engineering-complex/
Today we celebrate Women's Equality Day and the 99th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment of the Constitution, which won women the right to vote. In the United States Air Force and beyond, women have had vital roles in achieving victory and progress for the nation. Today we celebrate all of the women in uniform and those pioneering women who shaped the Air Force into what it is today. From Staff Sgt. Esther Blake, the first woman in the Air Force in 1948 to former AFMC commanders Gen. Janet C. Wolfenbarger, the first female 4-star Air Force general and Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski, the third to achieve that rank, to today's Airmen warriors and fighters like Lt. Col Nicole Malachoski, the first female Air Force Thunderbirds, we thank you for paving the way for future females across the military who continue to break glass ceilings today.
We are all familiar with things such as wireless headphones....but bringing bluetooth technology into the aeromedical evacuation realm is a whole new game-changer, led by our 711th Human Performance Wing at the Air Force Research Laboratory - AFRL. Researchers are optimizing and testing a commercially available wireless stethoscope that will not only enable medical personnel to listen and diagnose, but also record sounds for purposes such as second-opinion diagnosis and training. This technology will improve treatment in high-noise environments that are typically faced by our deployed warfighter teams. “This innovative medical tool will help Department of Defense aeromedical professionals better treat injured warfighters, and transport them back home to their loved ones,” said Dr. Melissa Wilson, nurse scientist in the 711HPW. https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1940535/afrl-tests-life-saving-tool-to-add-to-aeromedical-tool-kit/
The Air Force’s Resiliency Tactical Pause isn’t about a stand down day; it’s about connecting with the people around you and making sure they’re connected to you. Be honest, be vulnerable, but most of all, be yourself. For any #Airman out there struggling right now: there is hope. Please don’t give up on us because we will never give up on you. (U.S. Air Force video by Tech. Sgt. Benjamin W. Stratton, 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa Air Base) Thank you to TSgt Stratton for the great video and CMSAF Kaleth O. Wright for highlighting it for all to see!
Cancer survivor and pacer Julia Khvasechko will run her 229th marathon at this year’s Air Force Marathon on Sept. 21. Khvasecko has ran a marathon in all 50 states twice and is now working on round three, making the Air Force marathon her third marathon ran in the state of Ohio. Will you join her at this year's event? Hope to see you running! https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1940530/running-has-much-more-meaning-for-air-force-marathon-pacer/
It's still August...but it's never too early to get prepared! September is National Preparedness Month. Whether tornado or hurricane, flood or other natural or manmade disaster, have you taken the steps to be prepared for the unexpected? https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1940546/september-is-national-preparedness-month-make-time-to-plan-for-disasters/
How do we take novel ideas and turn them into products our United States Air Force needs? Bring on the AFWERX Spark Collider. "The Spark initiative helps Airmen create pathways to bring real solutions to their day-to-day pain points,” said Maj. Tony Perez, who directs Spark activities for AFWERX, the Air Force’s in-house operation to foster grass-roots innovation at the base level. “At the Spark Collider, Airmen get to have honest conversations with nontraditional vendors who are contract-ready and whose solutions can be executed rapidly,” Perez said. https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1940892/air-force-advances-innovation-at-spark-collider/
TOPIC was built with the Air Force Sustainment Center’s strategic goals using AoP to work through constraints, with the ultimate goal of returning aircraft to the warfighter on-time. The one of a kind room offers a one-stop area for problem solving. “The room was designed for busting constraints and ensuring the needed tools are at your fingertips,” said Timothy Gray, 402nd CMXG director at Air Force Sustainment Center. https://www.afsc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1941015/402nd-cmxg-opens-center-to-improve-warfighter-support-through-aop-practices/fbclid/IwAR3zVwxhyKY3jbFrN2OtQqwitTc9M2QvXwa0H9UIxH1Oh7BpCZI9-l84cX4/
When opportunity knocks, our #innovative civilians jump to the call! For Amber Pecoraro, a contracting specialist at AFMC,the knock came from the National Security Innovation Network where she had the chance to spend 6 weeks exploring the challenges of collaboration that small businesses face when working with the government at startup Decisive Point in Washington, D.C. The first industrial-sized 3D printer authorized to produce nonstructural aircraft parts is now in service at Travis Air Force Base, bringing with it a new sense of excitement as the field unit is showing how today's technology can reap benefits across the maintenance enterprise. The first parts they printed: two new latrine covers in 72 hours, parts that could take up to a year from time of order to delivery. And now, with parts in production, all the hard work that went with gaining certification is paying off. There’s a new sense of urgency within the organization. “It’s exciting because the Air Force is implementing new technology at the field level,” said Tech. Sgt. Rogelio Lopez, 60th MXS . “The Air Force continues to encourage Airmen to be innovative by finding new ways to streamline processes and save resources.” https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1938301/travis-afb-produces-first-certified-3-d-printed-aircraft-parts/
Chief Master Sgt. Troie Croft, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Command Chief, asks supervisors to get to know their employees, and when necessary, get them the help or support they need. #resilient #Airman #leadership CMSAF Kaleth O. Wright
We keep the 'power' in AIRPOWER! Thanks to early detection of issues with the C-130 wing joints by AFMC #engineers and #maintainers and quick implementation of a fleet-wide time compliance technical order, 113 of the 123 affected C-130 “rainbow fittings,” have beem inspected and verified, enabling safe return to service. https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1940888/c-130-rainbow-fitting-inspections-near-completion/
“The United States Air Force has given me a great career. I have met a lot of great people. Because the Air Force is such a small world, some of those people I saw again later on in my career. It makes you feel like you are part of another family.” Jonie Collins started her career working at local colleges, travelling with her active duty spouse as he served across the globe. She later learned what the Air Force had to offer her as a member of the civilian service, enabling her to grow as a person and establish a career. Learn more about Jonie, one of our star civilians at AFMC. https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1939873/civilian-discovers-true-purpose-with-the-air-force
"Defining your innovation ecosystem is talking to a lot of people and connecting the dots," said Trish Marshall, an Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center #innovation program analyst, who helped facilitate a partnership between AFIMSC and the Business and Enterprise Systems Product Innovation office at Maxwell Air Force Base to help launch two new mobile apps with the goal to improve mission support across the spectrum. https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1939868/alliance-improves-mission-support-capabilities
The Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL player Herschel Walker (Official Fan Page) visited our #Airmen at Robins Air Force Base last week where he shared his story of #resiliency and coping with mental illness. His advice to our United States Air Force Airmen: Get UP! You are NOT alone. Video product by Robins Air Force Base Public Affairs
Building #resilient installations was the theme of an Air Force Civil Engineer Center workshop that brought together environmental, public affairs and other base professionals August 13 to 15 in San Antonio. "We’re here to enable the Warfighter, and to be successful we need to ensure our environmental teams at the installations are well-equipped and doing a good job at the bases,” said Jeff Domm, director of AFCEC’s Environmental Management Directorate. https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1937840/air-force-workshop-focuses-on-installation-support-environmental-stewardship/
The Air Force Employee Assistance Program offers a menu of resources that can help with everything from finding help for your home to medical providers, family care....monkeys on bicycles (well, maybe not everything!) and more. Chef Robert Irvine took some time to help United States Air Force civilian Stephen Herrera navigate the EAP 'one stop shop' in this Air Force 2nd Audiovisual Squadron production.
"...This is a matter of committing to something and investing in yourself. If you make that choice and you’re really committed enough, you can get there,” said AFMC civilian Robert Duff, and engineer at Arnold Engineering Development Complex. Duff, once homeless, found a way to attain an education and ultimately a career as an United States Air Force #civilian electrical engineer. He took advantage of each opportunity that came his way and set his sight on a goal, showing that with #resilience, you can have the strength to overcome any adversity. https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1937846/arnold-engineer-recounts-how-he-overcame-homelessness
“The ALC of today is not the ALC of 10 years ago,” said Brig. Gen. Chris Hill, Tinker Air Force Base's OC-ALC commander. “Today we maintain, repair and overhaul aircraft, aircraft components, aircraft engines and we develop software. Those are our four main product groups and that is a change of the ALC of old. Those of you who have had experience from 10, 15 years ago will recognize that we’re now the doers and that’s an important part of our transition.” https://www.afmc.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1936055/logistics-complex-efforts-critical-to-air-force-readiness/
