AFOSI accepts applications for civilian special agent positions from experienced law-enforcement personnel and from inexperienced college graduates looking for entry-level positions.
Our VACANCIES list shows available positions. All entry level positions filled through Developmental or PALACE Acquire vacancy announcements will be filled at the GL-7 pay grade. These positions are attainable without law-enforcement experience, provided the applicant meets the minimum qualifications required for the 1811 series set forth by OPM. Successful candidates possess at least a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 2.95 or better. Additional consideration is given to those individuals who have degrees or experience in special skill areas: languages, forensic or computer sciences, accounting, finance and foreign area specialty. Anyone hired into a GS-12 or above position must have criminal investigations experience at the grade level identified in the specific vacancy announcement.

If there is an announcement posted, please pay particular attention to the section labeled "QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED" because it explains the criteria an applicant must satisfy to qualify for the position. Applicants should ensure their resume explains their qualifications for the position. Also, almost all agent positions require employees to sign a worldwide mobility agreement. Employee duty location is based on the needs of the Air Force. Finally, anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is automatically disqualified from being appointed to a position requiring the possession of a firearm or ammunition.

PALACE Acquire Program
In addition to the civilian opportunities above, we also partner with the Air Force Personnel Center to hire special agents through its PALACE Acquire (PAQ) Program. Historically, the PAQ Program hired approximately 10 new agents each year. Individuals are hired into GL-1811-7 positions, with promotion potential up to GS-1811-13, contingent on successful job performance. New PAQs, who are centrally-funded by the USAF, meet the same performance and training requirements as other AFOSI series 1811 criminal investigators. While under the auspices of this program, individuals are provided USAF-funded training over a period of 3 years before being outplaced into a permanent AFOSI funded position.
AFPC and AFOSI fill PAQ Program positions through college campus recruiting events. Prospective applicants must attend a recruiting event to apply for a position through the PAQ Program with AFOSI. What is the PALACE Acquire Program?
In the PALACE Acquire Program, you will occupy a permanent full-time position during a three year, formal training plan designed to let you experience both personal and professional growth while dealing effectively and ethically with change, complexity, and problem solving. You will receive promotions and yearly salary increases based upon your successful performance and supervisory approval. Upon completion of the formal training plan, the PAQ Program offers you a permanent position at a location based on the needs of the Air Force, making it a great opportunity to begin a successful civilian career with Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS).
U.S. Citizenship, Security Clearance, and Mobility Agreement. The Mobility Agreement is a signed document stating that an employee is aware of and agrees with the condition that a position may require relocation at a later date.
To qualify for the PAQ Program positions, individuals must (at a minimum) graduate from a four-year college degree program with at least a 2.95 GPA.
How to Apply
All recruiting for the PAQ program is done through college campus visits. To apply for a special agent position through the PAQ Program, applicants must attend one of the events AFOSI participates in and talk with an AFOSI representative there. All PAQ recruiting events for FY17 have passed. We will post the schedule for FY18 as soon as it's confirmed usually around the August 2017 timeframe.
