OSI headquarters members gathered today at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. to honor OSI's fallen.

OSI leadership, including Brig. Gen. Kevin Jacobsen, OSI commander, Col. Humberto Morales, OSI vice commander, and Chief Master Sgt. John Fine, OSI command chief, placed a wreath at the NLEO memorial. It will be displayed among many others placed in honor of law enforcment members who have paid the ultimate price in service to their country.

"The contributions and sacrifices of these men and women are never forgotten," Jacobsen said. "As we read the names of our fallen heroes - and reflect on their legacies - we are reminded that our safety and security often comes at a terrible price. And while no words, no ceremony, and no salute can relieve this burden - we can, and we must ensure that their sacrifices were not made in vain."

The NLEO memorial is the nation's monument to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Dedicated on Oct. 15, 1991, the memorial honors federal, state and local law enforcement officers. The names of eleven OSI members are inscribed on the walls.

"It is on these walls where we stand today that centrally memorialize the names and memories of our fallen comrades - our AFOSI family," said Special Agent Bob Powers. "They are more than just names; they are fathers, sons, husbands and brothers; they were colleagues, confidants and friends."

Thousands of people from around the world visit the NLEO memorial during National Police Week, which runs from May 13-19. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week.
