Training for Special Agents
All new AFOSI special agent recruits—whether officer, enlisted, or civilian—attend entry-level training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia.
-
Initial Training: The process begins with a mandatory, 11-week Criminal Investigator Training Program alongside trainees from other federal agencies.
-
Agency-Specific Training: Following this, recruits complete eight weeks of AFOSI-specific coursework. This combined training covers firearms, defensive tactics, forensics, crime scene processing, interrogations, and federal law.
-
Probationary Period: After graduating from FLETC, all new agents serve as probationary agents, where they must demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of tasks.
-
Advanced Training: Upon successful completion of probation, agents may receive specialized training in areas like economic crime, counterintelligence, computer crimes, or technical surveillance countermeasures. Experienced agents selected for polygraph duties attend a 14-week DoD course.
Physical Requirements: All recruits must meet the physical requirements detailed on the FLETC website: www.fletc.gov.
