Pursuant to the BRAC 2005 mandate, effective April 18, 2011, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations has relocated from Joint Base Andrews, Md., to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va.

The BRAC 2005 mandate requires that five sovereign federal investigative agencies relocate and co-locate in the new facility at Quantico by Sept. 15, 2011.

"AFOSI is well ahead of schedule. Notably, there is also no disconnection or break in AFOSI investigative services provided to Air Force commanders due to the agency's move," said Brig. Gen. Kevin J. Jacobsen, AFOSI commander.

HQ AFOSI will be co-located with four other federal investigative agencies in the new Russell-Knox building on MCB Quantico.

The new building will also house elements of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Defense Security Service, Naval Criminal Investigative Services and the Army Criminal Investigation Command as part of this mandate.

According to one BRAC official, the co-location of these agencies under one roof will offer military leadership "world-wide situational awareness."
