Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents from Detachment 802, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., conducted a joint investigation with the FBI, leading to the arrest and conviction of a pedophile.

Shawn Alan Marshall, 50, was sentenced to life in prison August 22 for raping and sexually abusing an underage girl on Patrick AFB on several occasions.

According to his plea agreement, from March 16, 2011, through Nov. 30, 2012, on Patrick AFB, Marshall sexually abused and raped the victim. During some of the abuse, Marshall physically restrained the victim by locking her in a bathroom with him, pinning her arms behind her back, and wrapping a cord around her throat.

Marshall was physically and verbally abusive in the presence of the victim and used coercion to prevent the victim from disclosing the abuse. In February 2013, the victim disclosed the sexual abuse.

OSI initiated the victim interview, witness interviews and subject interview which led to the subject's arrest. Det. 802 agents also conducted the search of the subject's residence to help verify the victim's story.

OSI agents likewise conducted joint and split interviews with FBI agents. The two federal agencies worked together through the arrest and every step of the criminal justice process.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew C. Searle.
