Eight members from the Air Force Office of Special Investigations Headquarters participated in a 31-mile ruck march in honor of the 31 lives lost when a helicopter went down in eastern Afghanistan Aug. 5, 2011. 30 American servicemembers and their K9 perished in the crash along with eight Afghan nationals. The OSI team's ruck march took them through Washington, D.C., to their final destination at Arlington National Cemetery. Personnel from the Air Force Office of Special Investigations’ 24th Expeditionary Field Investigations Squadron and Detachment 241, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, completed an 80-kilometer Memorial Relay Run in honor of AFOSI's Fallen Heroes from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). Cumulatively, 17 participants covered the distance of slightly more than 51 miles in approximately seven hours and 10 minutes, April 26-27, 2015.
